We're building on a new lot and we want to establish a tree preservation plan. What should we take into consideration?
You want to know more about your trees.
Whether a property is new to you or you’ve been there for years, a tree inventory can give you an overview of what species you have and any hazards, disease and pest concerns, and other problem areas you may not be aware of.
Your goal is to protect your trees.
Trees are an extremely valuable asset to your property. It takes decades to replace a mature tree. A chainsaw operates on a very different time scale. Since cutting can’t be undone, we can help you identify necessary work that’s in line with best practices.
You’re ready to take an active role in managing your trees.
You want to hire tree work with confidence.
For any tree job, getting bids from multiple tree services is key to getting your job done in a cost-effective way. But it is also imperative that you insist on best practices. We have extensive and current understanding of the complex logistics of tree work. Any work performed on trees—from structural pruning to canopy reductions to full removals—can be done in a number of ways. Some approaches take more time; some cause more damage to surrounding trees and landscaping; some are more costly than others in the short- or long-term. There may be a reason for the disparity in prices. We can give you a “prescription” that spells out your specific job needs, combining efficient jobsite logistics with best practices in tree care. In this way, you can skillfully request bids and know you are choosing wisely.
Nicholas Carlson is well acquainted with the trees of our bioregion. Nick is a third generation tree worker continuing a family business started by his grandfather in Northern Wisconsin. He watched both his grandfather, Ed, and father, Dennis, climbing high into hard-to-reach trees, expertly rigging trees to the ground piece by piece for removal, and maintaining customers’ ornamental trees with timely and regular pruning services.
Nick found himself drawn to the same line of work and has followed in their footsteps as owner/operator of Carlson Tree Service in the Grand Traverse area since 2009. Starting with a pickup truck and a chainsaw, he built the business to a peak with 5 employees running a bucket truck and multiple chippers, but he’s stayed true to his niche as a skilled, agile climber who takes pride in low-impact techniques.
As the business has grown, so has Nick’s desire to continually add to his knowledge and skillset to serve customers and their trees effectively. He looks forward to sharing his experience and expanding his ability to positively impact tree health in the region through consulting. Nick is a certified arborist through the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) and also holds the ISA’s TRAQ certification (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification).
Carlson Tree Consultants can help you identify your priorities so you can manage your trees with both your goals and the trees' best interest in mind.
